Our paths crossed through our work at the Dalhousie Accent Clinic at Dalhousie University. Bonita ran the clinic starting in 2015. When she moved to Vancouver, BC, Catherine stepped into the leadership role. A fast friendship and mutual joy in discussing language and phonology was formed.
We felt confined within the medical model of accent modification in the field of speech-language pathology. We hold the philosophy that effective communication is only partly driven by pronunciation.

Bonita Squires is a career linguist and learning designer distinguished by her theoretical linguistic background, educator mindset, and compassionate approach. She holds a PhD in Health, a MSc in Speech-Language Pathology, and a BA Honours in Linguistics, all of which inform her work as a communication coach.
As a communication researcher and instructor, Bonita brings over 20 years of experience studying the structure of language and pronunciation. She specializes in multilingualism, language learning, and communication accessibility, teaching adult learners at the University of British Columbia and the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT). At BCIT, Bonita developed and delivers individualized English pronunciation support and leads the Conversation Group within the English Language Support Services.

Meet Catherine, a registered Speech and Language Pathologist renowned for her expertise in North American English phonology and contagious enthusiasm. Her educational background includes Master's degrees in both Speech-Language Pathology and Comparative Religions.
For almost 10 years, Catherine has worked with speakers from over 40 countries who speak over 50 languages. She uses a joyful approach to help her clients feel more confident and knowledgeable about their English communication. Catherine works with the public and industry, but also works with the next generation of Speech and Language Pathology professionals.
